Danijela Martinović declared queen of Eurovision
With Eurovision Song Contest and Franka's performance in Lisbon approaching, members of Eurofest Croatia voted the song "Neka mi ne svane" by Danijela Martinović as the best Croatian Eurovision entry so far.
Croatia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time as an independent country in 1993 and has so far competed with 23 songs in total. Members of Eurofest Croatia voted for the best Croatian Eurovision entry according to them, voting the usual Eurovision way. Neka mi ne svane by Danijela Martinović (Birmingham,1998) won first place with 280 points. Marija Magdalena (Jerusalem,1999) by Doris Dragović won second place with 265 points and Sveta ljubav by Maja Blagdan (Oslo,1996) placed third. Romanca which was performed by Kraljevi ulice & 75 cents in Belgrade in 2008 was placed last.
Danijela Martinović opened the Eurovision Song Contest in Birmingham in 1998, which was the first and only case of this so far. After an iconic cloak drop and an excellent performance, Danijela won 5th place with 131 points. She got 12 points from Slovenia and Macedonia and 10 points from Israel, Malta, Germany and Slovakia. All countries except Hungary and Romania awarded their points.
